Prof. Magdalena Osinska held her third research internship at Brown University in Providence, RI, part of the prestigious Ivy League in the USA. The internship at the Growth Lab in the Department of Economics led by Professor Oded Galor was of a research nature.
The professor attended a Deep-Rooted Factors in Comparative Development conference and numerous seminars and discussions. Within the Growth Lab, she presented an hour-long seminar entitled Investigating Relationships Between Economic Freedom, Growth and Development in CEE Countries, in which she discussed the long- and short-run relationships between the economic freedom index and GDP per capita and the HDI index. The study's results clearly indicate the significant impact of institutions on economic and social development in these countries. The study triggered a lively discussion about the deeper historical and cultural context. The stay was funded by the ImSERT Centre of Excellence at NCU.
